Soltech Solutions, a Lehigh Valley-based startup and manufacturer of state-of-the-art indoor LED grow lights, is once again expanding after outgrowing their current space. The startup company was formed in 2014 and has been a tenant of Bethlehem’s Pi: Partnership for Innovation, since 2017.
Their flagship product, the Aspect, is the first LED grow light developed specifically for interior design, allowing users to grow whatever plant they want in any location while enhancing the decor of any indoor space. Sales have taken off recently as house plants have enjoyed a boom in popularity and as homeowners have worked on indoor improvement projects to bring nature inside.
Indoor plants have also become a large part of employee well-being, adding life to once-sterile office layouts to improve air quality, reduce stress, and boost happiness and productivity in employees. Soltech recently fulfilled an order for more than 100 lighting systems to Google’s New York office and has received interest for an order nearly double that size from Citibank in Singapore.
The Southside Bethlehem Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) has invested in Soltech since they first came to Bethlehem. A $15,000 Technology Transfer grant helped them to build out their initial inventory for the Aspect, and ongoing support has come in the form of paid interns from local colleges, access to the NCC Fab Lab, and sellable KIZ Tax Credits that provide additional funding for the company.
“Thanks to the continued support of the Lehigh Valley, City of Bethlehem, and Southside KIZ we’ve been able to continue our growth at a steady pace” said Paul Hodges, CEO of Soltech Solutions, in a news release. “From our smallest of beginnings in this city a few years ago, we’ve been able to successfully develop a business that has a real hand in making life a little greener.”
